Chemical Ecology Workshop in China
After becoming interested in collaboration, as well as successfully applying for and receiving a large travel-grant, the Max Planck Institute for Chemical Ecology (MPI-CE) and the Chinese Academy of Sciences at the Institute for Zoology (CAS-IOZ) together hosted a 10-day workshop in Beijing, China.
This was an opportunity to present our current projects in order to create a general discussion and to direct future avenues for research. We also had an opportunity to generate novel ideas and collaborations within the field of Chemical Ecology and across international borders. Our students as well as those from the Chinese Academy of Sciences had the chance to bridge specific areas of expertise that stem from different backgrounds of study, and we had time for hands-on laboratory exchanges as well. In total we had 10 researchers travel from Germany, including PhDs, Postdocs as well as our Director, Bill S. Hansson.
While we spent the majority of our days in the lecture halls or laboratories, we also had the chance to visit several historical locations around Beijing with the students from the CAS, which further enabled interaction and promoted additional opportunities for communication between our two Institutes.
